“Exams motivate students to study harder”

Education is an integral part of every person’s life. It has become an unwavering procedure for all the school leavers to take exams in order to determine the level of their knowledge recently. That is why some people claim that this process makes them do their best to succeed in it while others assure it does not prove anything. So, who is right? Let us speculate about it.

I am strongly convinced that exams are of great practical value. Firstly, whereas preparing for the exams, students have to deal with a great quantity of material. Therefore if they do everything on time, it will help them to fill in the existing gaps in their knowledge. Additionally, exams upgrade some personal qualifications, making the students more organised and mature in facing various problems and coming up with right solutions. Consequently, they will be better at arranging their workspace in the future.

Nevertheless, we can find a contrary opinion on this contentious assumption. They state that exams themselves are nothing else but a pure luck phenomenon. They also claim that it is frequent for school leavers to guess the right answer while passing the exam.

I cannot completely agree with the above-mentioned opinion about the phenomenon because the whole educational system has been developed to delete all these accidental right answers, thus quite the reverse, leaving much space for students to demonstrate their own abilities and knowledge.

All in all, I reckon that this suggestion has its rational kernel as well as the ground under the feet but I still strongly believe that the exams are great motivators in the whole educational process.

Nowadays, what the students talk about most is grades. It seems that grades has become the purpose of studying. In my opinion, grades force students to learn, but not encourage them.  

There is a popular saying among the students that ˜arks are the root of the students? that shows the importance of marks. As knowledge is taking a more important part in our society, we students are all trying to get better education because we know that the more knowledge we get today, the better we can prepare for the future. We are all willing to go to a famous university, as it is easier for a graduated student from a famous university to find a good job. Since marks are closely related to bright future, we can easily understand why students are crazy about their marks.  

I do not deny that marks make students to study hard, but that is a kind of enforcement but not encouragement. Students study just because of the stress of future living conditions. That is a horrible thing, isn`t it? Study, which should have been a kind of happiness, has now become a way to survive, that`s too heavy for this word and may have caused some tragedies.  

We read in the newspaper continually that some students killed themselves just because they did not do well in the test. They may have a bright future, but they died so early just because of the low marks. Maybe they are not strong enough, but there is no reason to let them die! The grades become a heavy stress for the students, which do not encourage them, but discourage them, disappoint them and finally lead to their death.  

We can also see some classmates around us who do not compete in the right way. In order to get better marks than others, some students damaged or hide other students` book, some even cheat in the exam. Such kind of thing makes a very bad influence on those students` further lives. They might do the same thing when they had grown up and that would obviously cause more serious consequences. Students should not study for marks, but for themselves. Study means more than just getting good grades. Study stands for many, many things, such as the happiness of absorbing the knowledge, the satisfaction of mastering the knowledge. Those things are for the students to dig by themselves, but grades take up the time of that.  

Grades are not everything for students. It has not encouraged the students to learn, but led them into the wrong way. Grades have become an obstacle of the development of the students` study.

The grades are an important part of the school testing system. some might disagree with this statement because it might seem unfair to a lot of people, that a student’s ability to be tested only by grades achieved during schooling. but in most of the schools, the grades are essential for proving your worth in this competitive system.

First, it makes the study competitive and encourages the students to do better. some may have the idea that grades do not help a student in getting better because not all students have the aspiration to do good in the educational field. Hence, grades become a less important reason in some of these scenarios. Although, getting good grades becomes a driving factor for a lot of students as they find it very rewarding and it motivates them to give their best in the examinations and all the other fields. A student getting better grades gets much more appreciation equally from their teachers, peers and parents, and gives us a sense of satisfaction.

The grades help to decide one’s place in his/her studies. though for some, it really isn’t a big factor as they are less interested in grades or perhaps they study hard but just do not like the examination setting as a result, even though they study well, they are somehow unable to give their best in that setting. However, usually, it tells a student how much work they need to put in and in what fields they need to work more to improve their performance. For example, during my schooling I got very poor grades in Chemistry and it drove me to spend more time on the subject compared to other subjects as a result, my grades improved over time and as a result, my overall grades were better.

Finally, good grades speak for themselves about a student’s performance when it comes to higher studies and job recruitment. I agree that a lot of the jobs are looking for other properties in their employees, such as the managing skills or the soft skills of an applicant when it comes to a managerial post. but in most cases, it is preferred that the person has a good knowledge base in the field they are applying for a job and the grades become one of the deciding factors for the recruitment process. I recall the time when I attended an interview for a position which required knowledge of the machines used in the factory and my grades showed the recruiters that I have the necessary knowledge in the required field.

Grading should be a part of the learning system as it has various outcome related importance when it comes to the real world and it also gives an insight into the person’s intelligence and their drive for competition. they become an important aspect of a student’s future endeavours.
