My home is my castle
Everybody knows the English proverb “An Englishman’s home is his castle”. I am going to tell you some words about my home and my family. We are a happy family: my dad, my mum, my brother and me. We like our own home and nobody may enter it without our permission because our home is our castle. We do not want anybody to disturb or bother us. We adore a quiet family life.
Each of us has some kind of favourite occupation. My dad is interested in politics. He has already made a successful career. It was not difficult for him because he is able to handle people and I think that at present the most important quality is the ability to deal with other people. At home my dad usually reads the latest news in the evening. My mum is fond of cooking tasty food. She prefers a happy family life to promotion in her job. My brother is a student at university. He has to work hard now to make a successful career in the future. I hope he will achieve good results.
As for me, I am trying to do my best at school. I am a pupil in the 7th form. I have been studying English for two years and a half. I want to improve my pronunciation and enrich my vocabulary. I am sure that good knowledge of English will help me to make a successful career in the future. I am ambitious and I am dreaming to be like my father.
“My home is my castle”, we say very often. And everyone knows that this castle is very hospitable and friendly. We like to invite our friends to our birthday and family parties. We sometimes visit our relatives and friends. But we can not imagine even a three-day staying anywhere without our warm home world. I completely agree with the saying “East or West, home is best.”

Все знают английскую пословицу “Дом англичанина – его крепость”. Я расскажу Вам немного о своём доме и своей семье. Мы – счастливая семья: мои папа, мама, брат и я. Мы любим свой дом, и никому не позволено войти в него без нашего разрешения, потому что наш дом – наша крепость. Мы не хотим, чтобы кто-то мешал и докучал нам. Мы обожаем спокойную семейную жизнь.
У каждого из нас есть какое-то любимое занятие. Мой отец интересуется политикой. Он уже сделал успешную карьеру. I live in a 10-storeyed brick block of flats in a peaceful district, not so far from the centre of the city. I moved here 6 years ago with my parents and a little sister. Our house is surrounded by a children’s park and some shops. Our flat is on the top floor and it’s 80 square meters, so it’s very light and spacious. It is also well-planned and comfortable. There are all necessary modern conveniences in the flat: hot and cold water, gas, heating, television and internet connection, electricity, a refuse chute.
We have a living-room, a kitchen, a bathroom, two bedrooms and a pantry. The biggest room is our kitchen. We cook there and have meals at a big wooden table. The gas-stove, the fridge and the sideboard for dishes and glassware are built-in. We use all modern kitchen gadgets here: an electric kettle, a microwave oven, a dish-washer, a coffee machine, a food processor, a toaster.
The view from the windows in our living-room is amazing. Our guests admire the picturesque scenery of the wood and the river. There is an artificial fire-place in the wall and a fluffy carpet on the parquet floor in the middle of the room. We often lie on it watching some good movie on TV. My mother is fond of growing plants, so the living-room is full of palm-trees and blooming plants. It looks fantastic.
I have a room of my own. According to my taste I chose the wallpaper for the walls and the furniture: a sofa with lovely cushions, a wardrobe, a writing desk and a floor lamp. The window is framed with peach silk curtains. The floor in my room is covered with wall-to-wall carpeting. I love my bedroom, it’s very cozy and warm.
Probably my flat isn’t ideal to someone’s mind. But for me it’s the best place to relax and meet my family. They say: “East or West, home is best”. My parents are very hospitable and we keep our house open for friends and relatives.

Газовая плита, холодильник и буфет для тарелок и стеклянной посуды встроенные. Мы пользуемся всеми современными кухонными приспособлениями: электрическим чайником, микроволновой печкой, посудомоечной машиной, кофеваркой, кухонным комбайном, тостером.
Вид из окон нашего зала изумительный. Наши гости восхищаются живописным пейзажем леса и реки. В стене находится искусственный камин, а на паркетном полу в центре зала лежит пушистый ковер. Мы часто лежим на нем и смотрим какой-нибудь хороший фильм по ТВ. Моя мама увлекается выращиванием комнатных растений, поэтому зал полон пальм и цветущих растений. Выглядит потрясающе.
У меня есть своя комната. По своему вкусу я выбирала обои для стен и мебель: диван с красивыми подушками, гардероб, письменный стол и торшер. Окно обрамляют персиковые шелковые шторы. На полу в моей комнате лежит ковровое покрытие. Я люблю свою спальню, она очень уютная и теплая.
Возможно, моя квартира неидеальна для кого-то. Но для меня это лучшее место для отдыха и встречи с семьей. Говорят: «В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше». Мои родители очень гостеприимны, и наш дом всегда открыт для друзей и родственников.

I think, every person always dreams about the place where he can speak about his problems, chat with close friends, where he can feel happy and quiet. For me it is my family and my home. It is the best place in the world and my dearest people live here.
My family is not large we are 4. I have a father, a mother and a brother. We all live together in a new flat. My father is 45. He is a tall and well-built man with short black hair and grey eyes. He is quiet and hardworking. Really, he is a bread maker of the family. Dad is handy with many things. His hobby is fixing everything at home.
My mother is very lively. She is life and soul of the family. She is a pleasant woman of forty with beautiful chestnut hair and dark brown eyes. She is a lofty ideal for me. My parents have been married for 20 years they have much in common, in everyday life Dad is impractical and needs mother to look after him. Parents have different views on music, books, films. For example, my father likes horror films and my father likes “soap operas” . My father is a football fat and Mum doesn’t like sports. But they try to have the same opinion about the education and upbringing of their children.
My brother is only 11. He goes to school. He is funny and curious. He is constantly asking many questions often silly ones. But this only a moment – I can’t imagine my life without our little monster. We all feel happy when we are together. In the evenings we often have little gatherings in the kitchen by the cup of tea, chatting, laughing and discussing the events of the day. Those evening are the best of all. But sometimes I have problems with my parents.
They don’t like the clothes I wear the music I listen to and the friends I bring home. It’s not easy to be a teenager. In summer I visit my Granny. I love her when I was a child she used to tell me fairytales and stories of her life. My parents are hardworking. They combine work with housekeeping. Mum manages our household very well. We all are in the habit of helping her to run the house. They say “Men make houses, women make home” . My home is a cosy place. Our relatives and friends like to come to our place. My parents are very hospitable everybody feels at home in their flat. Really “There is no place like home”.

Our house is a short walk from the trolleybus stop. We live in panel house on the fourth floor. Our flat has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, running cold and hot water, telephone, a lift and chute.
Our flat consists of three rooms, kitchen, bathroom and a hall. First there is a small hall with a mirror and small table with a telephone on it. The three rooms of our flat are: living-room, bedroom, my study.
The floor is parquet in the rooms and linoleum in the kitchen. There is a thick carpet in the living-room on the floor. All the rooms are papered with wallpaper of a different pattern and colour.
The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. It’s a large room with a balcony. In the middle of the room there is a table with some chairs around it. There is a sofa with two armchairs and low table with a TV-set on the left-hand side of the room. On the right-hand side there is a cupboard. There is a bookcase near it.
The bedroom is smaller and not so light. There are two beds, a wardrobe, a dressing-table.
The room I like best is my study. It is nice and cosy. It has a bed, a desk and an armchair. In the right-hand corner there is a bookcase full of books, magazins, newspapers.
The kitchen is handily arranged: there is a gas-stove, a frig, a deep sink, built-in cupboards and a table that folds against the wall when not in use. I like our flat very much.

В комнате есть диван, два кресла и с левой стороны телевизор на подставке. С правой стороны комнаты расположен шкаф, рядом — книжная полка.
Спальня меньше и не такая светлая. В ней две кровати, платяной шкаф и туалетный столик с зеркалом.
Комната, которая мне нравится больше всего, — моя учебная. Она милая и удобная. Там есть кровать, письменный стол и кресло. В правом углу — этажерка полная книг, журналов, газет.
Кухня удобно оборудована: здесь есть газовая плита, холодильник, глубокая раковина, встроенные шкафы, стол, который можно складывать, когда им не пользуются. Мне очень нравится наша квартира.

Некоторые живут в больших фешенебельных домах, другие могут позволить себе лишь маленькие квартирки – это вопрос денег. Другое дело, что наши дома могут рассказать о нас и нашей жизни. Вы можете владеть особняком или снимать комнату в большой квартире с незнакомцами. В любом случае у вас есть свое пространство, на котором вы можете создать свой маленький уютный уголок.
Теперь я расскажу вам о месте, в котором живу. Я живу с мамой в Санкт-Петербурге. Это большой и красивый российский город. Его называют «культурной столицей», и я полностью согласна с этим утверждением. Мы переехали сюда год назад. Моя мама художница, и она хотела попасть в эпицентр культурной жизни.
Мы снимаем однокомнатную квартиру неподалеку от станции метро «Комендантский проспект». Наш дом очень длинный и высокий. В нем двадцать два этажа. Мы живем на шестнадцатом. Наша квартира довольно просторная. В ней есть прихожая, гостиная, кухня, ванная и туалет. Ванная комната и туалет совершенно обыкновенные: ванна, раковина, зеркало, пара полок с косметикой и унитаз. В прихожей огромный шкаф со всей нашей одеждой, обычно мы одеваемся там.
Половина гостиной – это место для отдыха с двухъярусной кроватью, диваном и компьютерным столом. Вторая половина – это мамина мастерская. Там она работает над своими картинами и скульптурами. Наша кухня – это «несколько комнат в одной»: в ней мы готовим, едим и занимаемся учебой. Там есть буфет, кухонный стол, газовая плита, духовка, раковина и обеденный стол с четырьмя стульями. Нам также пришлось поставить сюда книжный шкаф, потому что в гостиной оказалось недостаточно места. Так что мы также используем обеденный стол, когда читаем или что-то пишем. Это довольно удобно. Моя мама часто использует компьютер для работы, и тогда я занимаюсь на кухне.
В заключение хотелось бы сказать, что в этой квартире для нас двоих действительно немного не хватает места. Большая часть маминых материалов и инструментов хранится дома. Но мы попытались эффективно разделить пространство и полностью его использовать. Я люблю свой дом, возвращаться туда – всегда радость.

I live in a 5-stored block of flats in Yushno-Sakhalinsk. It’s not a very picturesque place but we have a yard and a Kodak Express under the window. My flat is on the third floor. It’s very comfortable and well planed. I have all modern conveniences, such as central heating, electricity, cold and hot running water and a telephone. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony in it. The largest room in my flat is the living room. My family uses it as a siting room. There is a sofa, two armchairs, a coffee table, a TV set and a VCR in it.
We have two small rooms in our flat and one of them is my. It is not big but very cosy. There is a wardrobe near the wall and a desk near the window. My bed is at the left corner. I like my room very much because it is my room. Our kitchen is not very large but light. It’s very well equipped. We have got a refrigerator, a microwave oven, a coffee maker and a toaster. In evenings we like have tea and have rest in it.

Мой дом-моя крепость. Этим немногословным высказыванием мы подразумеваем, огромный смысл.
Когда ты в малом возрасте, ты не желаешь жить по законам семьи. Но, повзрослев, ты понимаешь, что эти законы нужны. Это правила твоей крепости, твоей семьи, твоего дома. В каждой семье имеют место существования те или иные законы, свои традиции.
Ты растешь, воспитываешься в своей семье, возле своих родителей, брата, сестры, с их помощью ты получаешь новое мировосприятие, по-новому воспринимаешь всё происходящее. Видишь первую мамину улыбку, улыбку счастья. В семье, ты, любишь и ненавидишь, ненавидишь и любишь. Когда становишься подростком начинаешь не любить, старшего брата и сестру. Проходит полгода, и всё опять по-старому. Ты опять их любишь и везде и всегда с ними. Затем лет через 7-8 ты уходишь из своего дома, улетаешь из гнезда, где ты вырос. И, кажется, ты рад этому. A person’s home is as much a reflection of his personality as the clothes he wears, the food he eats and the friends he spends his time with. Everybody has in mind an “ideal house” and an “ideal home”. How do I see my “ideal house”, how do I see my life there?
There are many kinds of dwellings, from town houses, which include terraced houses, semi-detached, detached houses, to country houses.
I want to live in my own house, maybe in a cottage in the suburbs. My house will consist of the ground and the first floor. There will be six rooms in it. In front of the house I will have a small garden with different flowers. I’ll also have a garage for my car.
Here is a brief description of the house I dream of. My bathroom is very good-looking: the walls are tiled in cream, the washbasin, the toilet are pastel pink. My towels are also pink. Then I go to the kitchen to have breakfast. It is always pleasant to cook in it because it is very comfortable. I make my tea and sandwiches and have breakfast. Then I go to my work, but in the evening “there is no place like home”. I have rest in the living-room. I can sit on the sofa and read or watch TV. Then I go to the bedroom. It is my favourite room. Here I sleep and see my sweet dreams.

My name`s Nikita. I live in Saint-Petersburg in a big and light flat. My address is 12, Bolshevikov Avenue.
My flat is beautiful and sunny. It has got five rooms. They are two bathrooms, a kitchen, a bedroom and a living room. The living room is big and cosy. There is a big TV, a sofa and two armchairs in it. My mum and I love sitting there watching TV.
My favourite room is a bedroom. It is smaller than the living room. But it is my favourite place because it is warm and comfortable. There is a bed and two cupboards. My bed is red. It looks like a real car. You can see a computer and a small TV in my bedroom. The room has got an aquarium.There are a lot of exotic fish in it. Every day I feed my fish and my mum helps me to clean my room. I like doing homework and playing in my room.
I like my flat!
