Travel broadens the mind

English:

Travel is an essential part of modern life. Thus, many people think that moving around expands one’s horizons. But others disagree with this point of view.

I strongly believe that travelling around the world develops the mind. Firstly, when people visit another country, they learn a lot about its culture and traditions. And this enriches their view of the world. Secondly, travelling gives an opportunity to acquire a foreign language through communicating with the locals. Thirdly, having set a foot into a new place, one has to be able to find his way and not to get lost. Such orientation exercise greatly improves one’s intellect.

Yet, some claim that travel is a waste of time and money. They are convinced that you don’t have to go overseas to become smarter. All sorts of information can be found in books nowadays. Moreover, those people say that going abroad is too expensive. It’s much wiser to invest your money in some training.

However, I don’t agree with these opinions. Books can never replace travelling. As the saying goes, “Better to see once than hear a hundred times”. As for the high cost, there is a wide variety of agencies today which offer tours for all kinds of budget.

In conclusion, I consider travelling a powerful way to broaden the outlook for those who are eager to learn.

Some people believe that traveling broadens one’s mind, whereas others believe that it is a big waste of time and money. They consider that it is better to learn about the world by books.

soch 001 002

I think that traveling is a great way to broaden one’s mind. First of all, there is a saying, «It is better to see something one  time than to hear about it one hundred times.» Everything a person sees during their travels leaves deep emotional traces in his or her memory and remembers better.  Second, going somewhere else, people see other places, nations and cultures. They have no choice but learn them and try to understand them better.

soch 001 003

At the same time there are those who believe that some people do not experience the local culture at all. They stay in their hotels, go to the beach, eat in restaurants and that is it. It would be cheaper and faster to learn about those places at home, reading proper books.

soch 001 004

Well, obviously, if a person does not want to experience the local culture, nobody can force it upon him or her. Howeverwhether people want it or not, people do experience it. Tourists see the architecture, the locals, how they are dressed and how they interact with each other. It is not a lot, but it is not nothing either. All those details cannot be learned at home by books.

soch 001 005

In conclusion, I would like to say that traveling is a perfect way to broaden one’s mind and experience the world faster, easier and in a more pleasant way. It adds to people’s education a spirit of adventure that I strongly believe is substantial for every educational process.

In conclusionI would like to say that there are opposing views on this issue. At first sight travels might seem useless in terms of broadening one’s mind but in actual fact they add to education a spirit of adventure. Thus, I strongly believe that traveling is important for every educational process.

Everyone needs at least one holiday a year, so when you begin spending sleepless nights thinking about the sun and the sea, when you think longingly of the green countryside and forget the mosquitoes and the boredom, there’re no doubt about it – you’re ready for a holiday. You need to get away from all your usual routines and get some fresh air and a change of perspective. Travel is necessary for us all. It keeps us from growing stale and old, it develops our imagination, it gives us that movement and change which are necessary to our life. One of the aims of travel is to go in search of beauty. The beauty spots of the world are magnets, which attract travelers year after year. Yet even more valuable for the traveler is the knowledge, which he gets by going among people of different characters and different ways of life. Then there is for the traveler the great joy of coming home again. When his curiosity for new scenes is satisfied, he turns his thought toward home where all the things are the most familiar and he loves them. Therefore, the traveler, besides the delight of travel, has the warmest feeling of returning home.

Traveling nowadays has become an important part of modern life. Millions of people all over the world travel about their own countries and to foreign lands as well. People travel to visit natural destinations such as seas, lakes, rivers, mountain ranges, deserts and so on. It’s always interesting to discover new things and other ways of life, to meet different people, taste different food, examine various architectural styles, visit museums and picture galleries. It’s common knowledge that travelling is a key to understanding other cultures and a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the world we live in.

Tourism is travelling for pleasure or enjoying yourself away from the place you live in. Nowadays tourism is growing very fast, mostly because people’s lifestyles have changed. They don’t want to stay at home anymore. To my mind, it’s because travelling has become cheaper. What was once the «grand tour», reserved for only the very rich, is now within everybody’s grasp. Now nearly everyone can afford traveling around the world. Not only are budget airlines offering cheap fares, but the higher valued airlines as well. In addition, it’s easy, faster and you get more freedom while travelling. The main reason for this is the technical superiority. For example, you easily book a ticket through the Internet. You don’t face long queues wasting your time. Therefore, it simplifies our life. Another change is money. Now we use handy little plastic cards: you can do purchases around the world without any difficulties or problems with local currency. Not long ago this was unthinkable but today it’s reality. So with all of today’s technological advances, it has become easier than ever to travel abroad.

Although tourism has many benefits, such as bringing extra money into the local economy, there are also negative effect. Tourism can do all sorts of damage to the environment, the culture and the people of a country, especially in places which aren’t prepared for large numbers of holidaymakers. It’s important to know how to travel wise. Firstly, you should find out as much about your holiday destination as you can. A guidebook is great place to start. As well as learning about the local places of interest, you can read about the way you will be expected to behave and dress. This can save you from making embarrassing mistakes. The next step is to think about how you spend your money when you are on holiday. Try to put it into the local people’s hands. Even in places where you are expected to haggle or bargain, you should always pay a fair price for things. Then, try to have as little effect on the local environment as possible. Try to leave place exactly as you found it. It’s necessary to follow this simply rules in order to save the culture and environment of the places you visit and to be welcome wherever we go.
Nowadays people can travel in different ways. They can choose a package tour, when everything is planned without your participation, and a self-tour, when you play it off the cuff.

Traveling yourself gives you the freedom to create you own schedule, do as you please. However, when a trip reveals unexpected joys, adventures and challenges, oftentimes these things are best shared with another person, who can relate to your situation and provide moral support. To ensure that a travel partner is one who can value to your journey, choose a travel companion who has similar travel preferences and personality characteristics. It’s importation to find a common interest. I would request my traveling partner to have a lot of energy and be open to seeing and doing a variety of different things. Outgoing without being overbearing or annoying is desirable. Moreover, someone who is easygoing. Life changes, plans change. However, the best traveling partner is someone, who doesn’t get ruffled in tough time and can see the light through a dark moment and laugh! Also, and this way be the biggest thing, they have to be pretty tight with their money. In order to have a pleasant time abroad you need to choose the right partner, who can share your interests and can be a good company.

One of the way to travel independent without intrusive travel agents is to go camping. It’s the ideal way of spending a holiday for many people nowadays. You see, camping has so much to offer. You enjoy absolute freedom. You have none of the headaches of advance hotel booking or driving around a city at midnight looking for a room. Modern camping sites are well equipped with hot and cold running water and all necessary facilities. But above all, you enjoy tremendous mobility. Moreover, you are active all the time and you are always close to nature. Camping provides you with a real change from everyday living. And that’s the essence of true recreation and real enjoyment.
What about a package tour, of course it has many advantages. By choosing a holiday package, you actually get rid of all activities, starting from booking flight tickets, checking out accommodation availability at hotels and booking rooms. Everything will be done on your behalf by the tour operator and would simply be paying the charge. Another big advantage of tour packages is complete tour. At the same time package holidays have a number of disadvantages. To start with, conducted tours to places of interest are carefully censored. The tourist is allowed to see only what the organizers want him to see and no more. A strict schedule makes it impossible for the tourist to wander off on his own. The sad thing about this situation is that it leads to the persistence of national stereotypes. We don’t see the people of other nations as they really are, but as we have been brought up to believe they are.
People choose different places to visit. Some are looking for sandy beaches, sparkling waters and cloudless skies. Others rest in spacious and elegant rooms, dine on delicious cuisine or unwind in a relaxing sauna, and the luxurious hotels cater for every need. All adventurous nature lovers who long to escape to a land of endless rivers, bottomless lakes, towering mountains and colossal cliffs choose mostly campsites.

As for me I’d like to visit one of the most gorgeous cities — …

I guess everybody will agree that travel broadens the mind. That’s true. Getting out of the place where you always live, then going to an unfamiliar place will be a kind of unforgettable experience in your life.

Recently, for many countries tourism has become an essential part of economics. Some people claim that while traveling men broaden their minds. Others disagree with this point of view.

I believe that travel broadens our horisons. Firstly, it gives us new unforgettable emotions. For instance, we can go sight-seeing and become impressed by beauties of the world. Secondly, travel allows us to understand how many environmental problems there are on our planet. Traveling to different countries can also show us how the local people cope with such problems. Lastly, travel is great chance to practise your second language.

Nevertheless, some people reckon that travel does not broaden the mind. To begin with, there are many tours and excursions that appear to be a waste of time and money. In addition, tourists quite frequently cannot make new acquaintance with the local people as they do not like tourists. Consequently, tourists cannot  really

Travelling broadens the mind. Do you agree?

Travelling broadens the mind. Do you agree?

There are just a plethora of benefits to travelling. Be it meeting new people, trying new cuisines, experiencing new cultures, and seeing new sights – travelling provides experiences and perspectives that eliminate bigotry, prejudice, and narrow-mindedness. These are negative values that Mark Twain believes many people sorely need. Even though some critics may argue that continuous travel may reduce the impact of this learning, for the majority, the greatest advantage that travel has is that it can expand one’s knowledge about the world.

Through good and bad experiences gained while travelling, the minds grow and expand. The perspective that one gains when experiencing what is like in a foreign country is far more significant that purely seeing it through books and on screens. Leaving one’s bubble and seeing a vastly different way of life, a different set of rules, and a different definition of happiness – these are all enriching experiences that one gains when travelling.

Looking at different cultures enable one to take a step back and reflect on one’s own culture. It also enables one to have a greater appreciation for diversity. Exposure to a new set of culture will allow one to understand that there is no one right practice and that greater tolerance of differences is necessary in today’s increasingly interconnected and multi-ethnic world. For instance, understanding the traffic situation in India will enable Singaporeans to be tolerant towards foreigners who may not adhere to local traffic regulations. Therefore, instead of reprimanding and gossiping about foreigners, one can enlarge his or her perspective, taking into account the fact that humans are transient beings who can change and adapt.

Going abroad also exposes one to new languages. Besides the fact that learning a new language enhances communication, it also reinforces an appreciation of cultural diversity. For instance, the fifteen different words for smiling in Thai emphasises the need for optimism in Thailand. As such, to the Thais, staying positive and smiling is often a much more effective way to deal with their emotions than getting caught up in anger. This further compels one to reflect on and question our current practices. Should an individual not have this new knowledge on the different interpretations of language, one would continue in his or her bigotry towards contrarian views in the long run.

Yet, some critics may argue that travelling back to the same country continuously would mean that one remains in the same isolated bubble. For instance, one may travel to the other end of the earth just to visit the nation’s Chinatown, Korea Town, American village, and so forth. Even though this may not be the case, it only occurs to the minority and most travellers do in fact get out of their comfort zones and embrace new knowledge and experiences.

Therefore, for the majority, travelling does indeed expand one’s horizons to have a greater appreciation of the world. Individuals should strive to achieve what Mark Twain purports to “throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, and catch the trade winds in one’s sails.” One should definitely explore, dream, and discover the world around them.

Travelling enables many people to broaden their minds in certain respects. When you travel you gain new ideas and experience new things. However you do not have to travel miles to expand your horizons, and there are many disadvantages associated with travelling. Travelling makes it possible to experience new cultures; for example, observing different religions and customs, even if it just means traipsing round an Indian mosque, or visiting an Egyptian temple. While travelling, you can learn new languages, which may increase your confidence. If you learn a few basic phrases, you are given the chance to interact with the native people.

Also you are more likely to experience the friendliness of the locals because language barriers are broken. This may lead to prejudice ideas being destroyed. A new language gives a different outlook on life. Travel also teaches you independence, because it allows you to escape the familiar surroundings of home and stay in a strange or alien place.

Just arranging travel and accommodation can give you new responsibilities. Often when people travel they leave everyday commodities behind and have to learn to cope without them. Improvising or making do without them teaches patience and determination, and when you return home you become more grateful for the things you left behind. Not only does travelling allow you to see new cultures, it also often allows you to learn the roots of your own cultures. Travelling enables you to become aware of differences in lifestyle whether they are regional or national – and to learn how different people interact and generally what they base their ideas on. Travelling lets people explore their own customs and way of life, and appreciate their countries history and traditions.

The Essay on 5 Reasons Why People Travel

Travelling is one of the most favourite hobbies of people around the world. But why they like to travel and how they enjoy the travelling experience is not the same. Just as we like the same things for different reasons in our life, when it comes to travelling also people have different perspectives and ideas about it. Let’s explore some of the reasons why people like to travel. 1) Relaxation is …

Travelling introduces new ideas that can change your opinions on different topics and help you to become more open minded about things you would normally disapprove of. Such as exploring different political situations in countries you visit. By experiencing life in different social systems or under different governments, you can see how successful they are and form intelligent opinions. Travelling can also make you more aware of other traditions and help you understand different views and perceptions that foreign people have. Our neighbours in France, a mere twenty-two miles from our shores live diverse lives from our selves, socially, politically and legally. By visiting new places you are introduced to new etiquette, which you may be expected to abide by.

This provokes awareness in many people on the correct rules of behaviour in society and broadens the mind. The opportunities of travel are expanding. Package holidays are becoming more popular. And travelling to new countries is being made more accessible, and cheaper. In the future there will be orbital hotels in space offering out of this world holidays. Ordinary holidaymakers will be able to travel to space and back.

How could travelling to a different planet not broaden the mind Space travel could put a new perspective on life and change the way you think and the way you live your live. However, travelling has many disadvantages and it is possible to take the view that it does not broaden the mind. Travelling can be very expensive and you may have to be inconvenienced by having to get visas or a passport. Why would you want to go to all this bother when you are able to experience new cultures through media, such as television programmes, newspaper articles or the Internet There are numerous travel programmes on the television and radio, and it is much easier and cheaper to see new places by this method. Also England is very international and there are many foreign people living and studying here. So you do not have to go abroad in order to learn new languages or see different traditions.

The Essay on American Dream Wrote People Country

American Dream More than half a century ago people from countries all over the world came to America. America at this time was the greatest place to be. You could restart your life, or as it was described as the land of opportunity. This was a place where you were judged by not who your father was, but what you make of your self. Most came for a better life, while some came for political reasons. …

An example of this is China Town in London. Here in this bustling town are many Cantonese and Mandarin speaking people. There are a variety of restaurants offering a taste of the eastern culture. There are also many dangers associated with foreign cultures.

There are the hazards of diseases and you may have to go to the trouble of getting injections and taking malaria tablets. You are relatively safe in England as there is no risk of wars or terrorist attacks. Some people could feel going abroad daunting because of the different laws and punishments for crimes. Also some might argue that there is no point in going abroad, as everywhere is becoming the same and homogenized. An example of this is the fact that in many countries there are McDonalds restaurants situated everywhere. Moreover many countries cultures are modified to suit English tastes.

So in fact you are not really experiencing the true way of life in that country. Also when you go travelling you often dont meet people of new nationalities. As Laurence Sterne expressed it As an English man does not travel to see English men, I retired to my room. Guests staying in many resorts are urged to remain in the safety of the complex of the hotel, and urged not to venture out, because of disturbing sights of poverty or fear of the unaltered world outside the hotel. Many tourists are reluctant to venture forth and so seldom see the real country, and its people, which they are visiting. However I feel that it is much easier to broaden the mind by travelling than watching travel programmes.

It is also much more enjoyable. By experiencing first hand the sounds and smells textures and tastes, satisfying all of your senses, and witness the country first hand. If you wish to do this then you have to tolerate any misfortunes encountered. Such as deadly cobras, cancelled flights or flash floods. So if you dare to be more adventurous than going to But lins, then you will reap rewards from it. Claudia Wilde Analytical Essay Summer Term 2001 English Language Coursework.

The Term Paper on Critical analysis of Good Country People by Flannery O’ Connor

Good Country People is one of the most sought after works of Flannery O’ Connor. It is said to be the biography of O’Connor but she never claimed it to be such. The novel Good Country People seems to reflect the current situation and emotional status of O’ Connor while she was writing the novel, and if it is not in fact her biography, her emotion at that time has influenced the novel greatly. …
