IELTS Writing Task 2/ IELTS Essay:

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Some people like to do only what they already do well. Other people prefer to try new things and take risks. Which one do you prefer?

Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer 1:
Some people prefer to take on challenges, explore new opportunities and embrace risks. Others, on the contrary, prefer to remain in their comfort zone and engage in no risky thing at all. Both groups of people have their reasons. Personally, I believe that taking on challenges and doing new things brings about more possibilities, improves the world and helps us enjoy our life to the fullest.

History teaches that successful people are always risk-takers. They succeed and change the world because they are not afraid of failure and do novel things. This is why people have to walk out of their comfort zone and try new things. And their mentality to try new things makes them tolerant of failure and helps them reach a new height. For instance, Michael Faraday, Marie Curie, and Thomas Alva Edison, to name just a few, were highly curious and worked hard to find new answers when they could have been easily satisfied with one or two of their early inventions and work. Their work, risk-tolerance and dedication made them famous and helped change the world.

On the contrary, people who take no risks at all and always do the same things, be it in their profession, hobby, or daily habits and choices, are less susceptible to failure because they have little to lose. In a sense, they are happy because they are not constantly trying to fight against all odds. For instance, people, who have always been in the same profession, scarcely changed their living place and never tried investing money in new ventures, often enjoy a relaxed lifestyle. Their mantra is that expect less, and regret less.

Personally, I think that trying and experiencing new things and embracing challenges help us constantly evaluate ourselves on the one hand and open up new potentials on the other hand. It also helps us set new goals and reach them. Life is too short to stay in one place, eat the same food and do the same thing over and over again. People need changes and challenges because they make our lives more meaningful, exciting and beautiful.

To conclude, I believe that people’s aspiration for learning new things, inventing something new and solving problems have developed our civilisation, and that is why we should not be afraid to fail and take on new challenges and risks.

Model Answer 2:
Since time immemorial, some men have thought differently, accepted challenges to solve a problem or taken a different course of action and have come up with great inventions or novel discoveries as a result. Broadly speaking, there are two types of people: first — those who prefer to take risks and try and build new things; and second — those who do what they do best and are content with the regular results. I prefer the first type of people and always aspire to learn new things and take on challenges.

In today’s world, where there is an ocean of information available at our fingertips, remaining the same and doing the same things is pretty mundane and a matter of setback. Through technology, we are exposed to different cultures and global events. This motivates me to feed my hunger to know and learn more, to visit places that are daring and daunting to many, and take up challenges to solve problems. The Internet is also a great medium for learning and gaining skills and finding out our true potential. For instance, I was doing well in an investment bank but was always intrigued by the payments industry specifically the digital wallet space. I took a risk a year back and changed my career path in the Digital wallet industry. I am learning new things every day and enjoying my work to the fullest.

To look at it from a different perspective, without taking the risk, we would not know what is lying beyond. There can be a rainbow of possibilities which might open up only if we take the first step forward. This does not mean that you would be successful on your first attempt and thus demands consistent pursuit. To supplement this with an example, a friend of mine was stagnant in his career and was unhappy with his monotonous job. With the advice of friends he took risks and ventured into a new business. He realised that he was doing very good and took the business as a full-time career. Thus, according to me trying new things and taking calculated risks is always beneficial.

To conclude, I believe that we are in this world to create and transform things from their present state to make the world a better place. While trying new things sharpens our creativity, it teaches us new skills as well. I prefer a life full of challenges, possibilities and excitement to having a banal and monotonous life.

In today’s competitive world, it is challenging to acquire a job. While some people believe that the best approach to start a career is by getting a university degree, others think that gaining experience and developing real-life skills is essential than having a university degree. This essay will discuss both opinions before reaching a conclusion.
To begin with, recruiters often write job advertisements that specify that a degree is required for the job; thus, the market decides on this point that it values credentials. In other words, a degree is a start in working life because it will increasingly provide opportunities for further development for the person, and this will reflect on the company’s profit. According to a University of California study, they compared a two 21-year-old people one of which is a graduate and the other has industrial experience; the comparison revealed that the educated person’s ability to learn is much faster than the experienced with no degree. Therefore, education does develop not only the speed of learning but also the ability to provide for the company in a quicker method.
Despite the explanation mentioned above, practical experience and soft skills give an individual a true understanding of companies mechanics whereas education is theoretical oriented. To illustrate, a degree qualification was once a major deciding factor in who gets the job; however, as more people have obtained credentials, employers have become less impressed, and they are starting to focus on practical experience and people skills. That is because real-life work experience shows that candidates can work well in teams and under pressure; consequently, they can adapt quickly and achieve success easily in real-life work environment.
In conclusion, the ideal employee is the right combination of both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding. In my opinion, different industries and job roles will favour various attributes; hence, neither is essential than the other.

Some people like to do only what they already do well. Other people prefer to try new things and take risks. Which do prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

Personally, I prefer to try new things and take risks. I think that all people want to success in life. They must work hard and gain knowledge and experience. Moreover, when people do things they already do well, they must improve their knowledge.. I base my statement on the following points.

Some of people who want to be success must constant to improve their knowledge and get good experience. Furthermore, they must try to do the best at their job. Therefore, they need to try new things, take risks sometimes and work hard. It is impossible to live without trying new things. For example, I want to drive motorcycle but I cannot to do it. So, I must learn methods of use motorcycle and must now about driving rules.

Additionally, I people need changes make our lives more beautiful and exiting. We find out new things, learn new things and dream to know other things. People need challenges because can make to become stronger.

To sum up, I believe that people is aspiration for learning new things. It is the main reason the way we live now. People make many discoveries and inventions that make our lives easier, happier and longer.

Yes, this needs structural improvements. Follow what Pahan has suggested above.

Additionally, I people need changes make our lives more beautiful and exiting. We find out new things, learn new things and dream to know other things. People need challenges because can make to become stronger.

This body para does not contain any specific example 🙁
Additionally, I people need changes make our lives more beautiful and exiting.
I think if you want use «people», you can lose » I» 🙂

In all

society

societies, people who live together, have a different kind of life. They choose different ways to live.
Depending on personal experiences and personality types, some people like to choose a simple way for their lives without taking any risks or trying new things

While

while others prefer to try different ways for gaining new experiences from new things or new ways.

About the first group, I should say, they are the kind of people who want to do what they already do well and have enough experiences about that.
They usually follow the routine way, because they did something well about that. This group of people

don’t

doesn’t want to try new things and take risks. After a long time, this type of life would become boring.

I think another group

are

is brave and curious. They like to gain a lot of different experiences from new things. They  don’t afraid of taking risks in their lives as well. Furthermore this kind of people like to pursue the changes and variation and don’t have any fear of them, although there are some difficulties  and obstacles in their lives.
In addition, I think that this group

don’t

doesn’t like monotony in their lives in contrast with people who follow the same way in their lives and like a calm and routine life without any

up and down

ups and downs.

In my opinion, taking risks or trying new things need some information and thoughts. Therefore,

B

before taking risks, people should think about that and make a wise decision.

For myself, I have to take a risk when I need. For an instance, I have a job, but my job

have

has become boring and routine. I need a promotion in my job and I should learn new subjects. So I should change my job and try a new one. This is a risky way but if I do the right things and think about it before anything I would gain new experiences and self confidence. Finally I can learn something new from my faults and overcome my fear.

Taking into account of all these factors and elements we may reach the conclusion that taking risks and trying new things need thoughts and information.
So people should consider

about

their abilities and capacities before anything.

Some
people like to do only what they already do well. Other people prefer
to try new things and take risks. Which do you prefer? Use specific
reasons and examples to support your choice.

Form
my everyday experience and observation I think that all people who
succeeded in life had to work hard and gain more knowledge and
experience in order to reach their goals. From the other hand, people
who all their life do things they already do well and do not improve
their knowledge do not move forward. I base my statement on the
following points.

First
of all, people who want to succeed must constantly improve their
knowledge and gain more experience. Moreover, they must be the best
at their profession. So, they need to try new things, take risks
sometimes and work hard .

Second
of all, it is impossible to live without trying new things. Imagine
one wants to learn how to drive. He will never be able to do it
without learning new things such as driving rules.

Personally,
I think that it is very interesting to learn new, to gain more
experience, to make new goals and reach them. Life is too short to
stay on one place. People need changes because they make our lives
more beautiful and exiting. We find out new things, learn new things
and dream to know other things. People need challenges because while
overcoming obstacles we make new discoveries, become stronger,
perfect ourselves and move forward.

To
sum up, I believe that people’s aspiration for learning new things is
the main reason the way we live now. People make many discoveries and
inventions that make our lives easier, happier and longer.

Everyone likes to succeed at what he does, and it is more likely that we will succeed at things we already know well.  However, to limit ourselves to doing familiar things will cause us to miss many opportunities to develop other skills and interests.  Sometimes, when we take a road not taken, the scene will be totally different.

What will be more fun than a vacation to an exotic destination? People often learn so much on their journey because they see and do many new things every day on a trip.  The 4th-century writer St. Augustine said, «The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.»  Since life is often compared to a long journey, not stop in an unfamiliar spot would mean an incomplete journey.  Of course, along the way, there will be some discoveries and some disappointment.  When we try new things we may fail, and it is the risk we have to take in order to enjoy every inch of life.  No life would be complete without these happy and traumatic surprises.  Meanwhile,  we can still learn something from new things, irrespective of these bad experiences.  Learning how to see setbacks through the eyes of hope and passion is an important lesson for all.  This is why growth often comes after trial and error.  In addition, we may succeed at a new activity and this will bring us a feeling of accomplishment and greater self-confidence along with possibility of finding new interest and line of work.

Furthermore, it is not always possible to play it safe and avoid risk throughout our lives.  We cannot control each situation and no doubt we will meet with challenges.  If we already have experience of testing ourselves in an unfamiliar situation, we will be better able to handle any situation which arises.

Trying new things is stepping into a misterious wonderland and often expands our horizon.  No matter how much we like certain episodes of our personal history, we still have to turn to a new page to proceed.
